BMW boss: The global situation is extremely fragile”

The Corona crisis is having a massive impact on the automotive industry, as Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW AG, also notes.“Our sales figures fell noticeably in all major market regions in the first quarter.”

  • Asien: -25 Prozent
  • Europa: -18 Prozent
  • Amerika -18 Prozent

“Globally, the decline at group level is 20.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2019.”

"In the past few weeks, however, it has become clear that the measures to contain the corona pandemic are lasting longer in many markets. This means that the sales situation in these markets will not return to normal after a few weeks, as assumed. Against this background, we are now assuming an EBIT margin in the automobile segment in a corridor of 0 and 3 percent. Sales and consolidated earnings before taxes will continue to be - as expected - significantly below the previous year's level."
