BEÖ: E-mobility is important for achieving climate goals

Before the crisis, Austria was one of the model countries for electromobility in Europe: new registrations of electric vehicles rose continuously month after month and the charging infrastructure grew to over 5,000 charging points. At the beginning of April, Statistics Austria reported a slight decline in new registrations for the first time: 2,428 fully electric electric cars were newly registered in the first quarter; that was 4.5 percent less than in the comparable quarter of the previous year. But overall, the proportion of vehicles with electric drives rose to 4.4 percent of all new registrations. The number of purely electric cars in Austria is almost 32,000 - see  BEÖ statistics.

Austrian energy companies have invested heavily in expanding the charging infrastructure in recent years. “We see electromobility from renewable energy as an important building block for emerging from the crisis stronger,” BEÖ chairman Ute Teufelberger is convinced. “Climate protection and sustainable mobility must continue to play an important role in the future.” With his 5-point program ' For more e-mobility in Austria ’, the BEÖ is committed to Austria’s 2030 climate and energy goals. It contains concrete suggestions, such as necessary legal adjustments to tenancy and housing law. “Now it’s about setting the course to continue the successful path of electromobility in Austria,” concluded Ute Teufelberger.
