AutoScout24: 20 percent want to use the car more

The car will remain important for 20 percent of Austrians even after the Corona crisis. A fifth of those surveyed stated that they intend to use the car more in the post-Corona period in order to come into less contact with bacteria and viruses.  Currently, more than three quarters of Austrian car owners rely on their own car instead of public transport to avoid infections. And more than half (53 percent) agree that the car is currently becoming more important. What will happen after the crisis? In any case, for many it is not a return to “normal operations” in terms of mobility behavior.

Corona is changing future mobility behavior

Corona is likely to have a long-term influence on whether Austrians prefer to use cars, public transport or other means of transport. More than 40 percent want to change their mobility behavior after Corona. Around a quarter of those surveyed assume that after the Corona crisis there will be less travel and mobility will tend to be restricted. Austrians are not only particularly cautious about using public transport at the moment: only five percent of those surveyed want to use public transport more after the Corona crisis than before. 56 percent of those surveyed want to return to their usual mobility behavior before the crisis, and even two thirds of those aged 50 to 65 want to return.
