Automobile importers: Mobility transition needs incentives

In 2014, drivers transferred 13 billion euros in taxes to the Austrian state coffers. This money must, among other things, be used to create incentive systems for alternatively powered vehicles and to finally expand the charging infrastructure, especially for electric cars. Car manufacturers are offering an increasingly wide range of alternatively powered vehicles. For a market breakthrough, however, the appropriate framework conditions are still needed - this is where politics is needed, says Felix Clary, spokesman for the automobile importers. It is not always necessary to create tax advantages; electromobility can, for example, be promoted through preferential treatment in road traffic, such as opening bus lanes or the possibility of cheap parking. Clary emphasizes that there is enormous, untapped potential here. In addition, the new edition of the eco-premium should be pushed forward in order to strive for fleet renewal or inventory rejuvenation, as newer models can make a significant contribution to environmental friendliness. "The motto must be: encourage instead of punish. A mobility transition must be thought of in the long term - but we have to send the right impulses for it now," says Felix Clary.
