Around 400 participants are expected in Salzburg. The Austrian professional state championships, which were actually planned for 2020, were postponed to this year due to corona. AustrianSkills are the basis for qualification for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 and EuroSkills St. Petersburg 2023.

The best young specialists, apprentices and students in Austria will start in more than 40 professions and prove their professional competence to their professional colleagues. On three days of the competition, the young specialists will implement challenging projects that are intended to reflect a practical picture of the diversity of professions.

"We would like to motivate anyone who wants to demonstrate their professional skills and talent to do so at the state championships. Participation requires, above all, fun in the profession they have learned, perseverance and above-average skills. Participation is definitely worth it, because AustrianSkills are the springboard to international competitions where the best skilled workers from all over the world compete and deliver top performances," says Philipp Gady, Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) and car dealership owner.

To take part in the professional championships, you must have completed vocational or school training in Austria and have a current employment relationship in the profession you have learned. For possible participation in WorldSkills or EuroSkills, job-specific written and spoken English skills are required. The minimum age at the time of the international competitions is 18 years. For WorldSkills the maximum age is 22 years and for EuroSkills it is 25 years in the competition year. A special regulation applies to WorldSkills 2022: Due to the postponement of the competition from 2021 to autumn 2022, participants may be a maximum of 23 years old.
