Moottorin tuotanto Wienissä Aspernissa on päättynyt

The workforce reduction at the Opel Aspern plant continues. The end of production of the 1.4-liter turbo engines for various Opel models in the middle of this year had been known for some time. After the takeover by PSA (Peugeot Citroën), no follow-up order could be landed. Around 200 to 220 workers and around 50 employees are now expected to lose their jobs. Just a year ago, 1,350 workers and employees were employed in Vienna Aspern. During the year there was a layoff of more than 350 employees following the discontinuation of the 5-speed manual transmission.  At the same time, production of the new MB6 six-speed transmission, which is found in Peugeot models, began. Sopimus on voimassa vielä kolme vuotta. The city of Vienna granted a grant of one million euros, but did not impose any conditions regarding the jobs. However, the new transmission could not compensate for the loss of the 5-speed gearbox. This meant that employment fell below 1,000 people for the first time. Nyt niitä on jäljellä enää 600. At its peak in the mid-1990s, 3,000 people worked at the plant.
