ARBÖ winter tire test: eight out of nine are at least recommended

Bei winterlichen Fahrverhältnissen haben die meisten Pneus im Test überzeugt.

In total, ARBÖ tested nine tires of size 225/50/R17 together with its German test partners ACE and GTÜ. This tire size is suitable for many mid-range models and some family vans. Dry, wet and winter road conditions were chosen as the surface, which represented all road conditions for the coming months. Basically, the ARBÖ draws a positive conclusion, eight out of nine tires achieved a “highly recommended” or “recommended” rating.
The test winner with 195 points is the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005, which delivers the best overall package and is in the top 3 in all categories. The braking properties are particularly excellent, making the Bridgestone the deserving overall winner.

No tire falls through completely

Behind them are three tires with the same number of points. With the BF Goodrich g-Force Winter 2, the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ and the Continental WinterContact TS 860, three well-known winter specialists took second place with 188 points. While the BF Goodrich shows its strengths particularly on snowy roads, the Goodyear impresses on wet roads. Conti has once again placed the focus on dry road conditions, which is why the TS 860 wins this category with 48 points (even one point more than the test winner from Bridgestone).
At the end of the field is the Falken Eurowinter HS01, which only achieves a conditionally recommendable rating with 162 points. It is a very good tire on wet and dry roads and leaves many of its competitors behind in these categories. According to ARBÖ, the tire has weaknesses on snow and ice.

Overall, the ARBÖ winter tire test delivers a good result, as ARBÖ technical coordinator Erich Groiss confirms in conclusion: "There is no tire that fails completely. The Falken is also definitely worth considering for areas where snow roads do not occur or only rarely occur. We can unreservedly recommend the test winner from Bridgestone. This tire can handle any road surface."
