ARBÖ: Summer tire test 2019
The situational winter tire requirement ends in Austria on April 15th. Reason enough for the ARBÖ to take a close look at the latest summer tires in advance.

ARBÖ: Summer tire test 2019
Slowly but surely winter is retreating across Austria. The question that arises for consumers is which tire is the best fit and offers the highest level of safety. The ARBÖ helps to answer the question and, together with its German partner club ACE and the Society for Technical Monitoring (GTÜ), has closely examined a total of nine tires. The dimension 205/55 R16 was tested this year, one of the most popular tire sizes, as such tires fit compact cars such as VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra and Co. First of all, it can be said that the tire manufacturers have developed well, because out of nine tires, four can be rated as “highly recommended” and another four as “recommended”. Only the Pirelli Cinturato P7 cannot keep up on both wet and dry roads and has to be satisfied with “conditionally recommended”.
This year the highest step on the winner's podium is shared by the Continental Premium Contact 6 and the Dunlop Sport BluResponse. While the Dunlop is ahead on wet roads, the Conti is particularly impressive on dry terrain. In the end, both tires achieved 137 points, one more than the Nokian Wetproof, which took third place overall. The Finn can even win the chapter ranking on wet roads, but weakens on dry roads, which means that the wetproof just misses the test winner label. In previous tests, the Finnish manufacturer's products were always at the top, which shows that Nokian has long since arrived among the tire elite. The Bridgestone Touranza T005 is also absolutely top and, with 135 total points, is also one of the highly recommended tires.
The second part of the ranking is led by the Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun with 129 points, whose driving characteristics can easily keep up with the test winners in both the “wet” and “dry” categories. It only loses points when it comes to rolling resistance. The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance masters this rating best in the entire starting field, but weaknesses become apparent on wet roads. This is also demonstrated by the Hankook Ventur Prime3, which, however, can catch up in the “Dry Safety” chapter and thus also gets a “recommended” rating with 126 points. Just like the Michelin Primacy 4, which comes in eighth place with 125 points.
The high quality of the summer tires tested this year was quite surprising for the ARBÖ, as Erich Groiss, technical coordinator of the ARBÖ, said after the test was completed
sums up: "Eight out of nine tires performed very well. This is also shown by the test table, as eight tires are within 12 rating points. This shows how well the tire manufacturers have worked. The differences in these tires can be felt in nuances at the absolute limit. However, almost all tires are recommended for normal everyday use."
