Crashes occur most often in Germany
The most popular means of transport on holiday is and remains the car. Overall, according to Statistics Austria, around two thirds of all Austrians travel by car; for domestic trips the proportion was around 80 percent and for international trips almost 50 percent. Due to the Corona travel restrictions, which have largely been lifted since June 15, it is expected that the proportion of car trips will increase significantly this year. "Due to the higher volume of traffic, we assume that the frequency of accidents will also increase. We therefore recommend that you take care of the appropriate protection in advance so that the vacation becomes what it should be, namely relaxation without financial risks," says Doris Wendler, CEO of Wiener Städtische Versicherung.
An analysis by Wiener Städtische Versicherung shows: During the summer months from June to September, most motor vehicle liability claims are recorded abroad. Germany is the absolute leader with almost a third of all damage. This is followed by Italy with 13.5 percent and Hungary with 8.5 percent. Another very popular country for Austrians to travel by car is Croatia, where 7.4 percent of all vehicle damage abroad occurs.
