AK survey on the vehicle service industry

Every year in the summer, the Vienna Chamber of Labor informs the public with surveys from the vehicle service industry. With headlines like “Expensive hourly prices for car mechanics, painters and plumbers,” consumers “get into a tailspin.” The mere fact that only 4% of the 900 vehicle businesses in Vienna (AK samples from 38 Viennese vehicle workshops) were included in the survey shows that an entire industry is being put in the wrong light in a flash. A representative online study of consumers by the Federal Guild from November 2019 shows a completely different picture. 88% of all consumers are regular customers at a car repair shop. Of these, 53% at a branded workshop and 45% at an independent workshop. 94% of these regular customers appreciate the good price-performance ratio. “Consumers are very price-conscious when choosing a brand or independent workshop and value not only the high-quality work but also a good price-performance ratio,” explains BIM Josef Harb.
