Afghan refugee as best apprentice

Afghan refugee as best apprentice
He was 16 years old when he fled with his parents from the chaos of war in Afghanistan to Austria and could neither read, write nor calculate. Today Ishaq Mohammad is 21, took first place in this year's Lower Austrian coachbuilder's state apprenticeship competition and completed the journeyman's examination in July with "good success". He is now employed as an industrial painter at the machine manufacturer Lenze in Asten, Upper Austria, and wants to do his evening school exams in order to then study mechanical engineering. Incidentally, Ishaq Mohammad last saw his parents when they fled five years ago when the family was torn apart. He hasn't heard from them since. Read our – in my opinion – moving story on page 30.

Important weighting
We in the KFZ Wirtschaft editorial team are constantly thinking about how we can design the traditional and most widely read magazine and fill it with exciting content. We remain true to the maxim that the focus should be on the essentials. We will continue to weight and prepare important things for you and leave out unessential things. You can read top stories with us, society rumors and tabloid reports can be found elsewhere.
Pleasing results
Finally, some good news: The renowned market research institute GfK, on behalf of the automotive industry, asked companies what their interim assessment of this year was after eight months and what the automotive year 2015 will look like at the end: 41% of those surveyed stated “somewhat good” results, 6% even “very good”. At the end of last year, pollsters recorded significantly negative expectations in their survey about the forecast for 2015. In this context, the current interim results are entirely encouraging.
