Thisnew assessment deadlinesfor theVehicle class Lalso apply to alreadyVehicles registered before March 1, 2020. The registration owner of such a vehicle, for which a longer period now applies than can be seen on the hole marking on the inspection sticker, can request that a new inspection sticker with a newly punched next inspection date be issued.
For this purpose, the approval holder must contact the approval office - and NOT the authorized § 57a assessment office.

“Extended check interval is a false signal”

Federal Guild Master Josef Harb regrets the extension of the assessment deadlines for this particularly endangered vehicle class. He refers to the Austria-wide coordinated statement from the WKÖ, which shared the opinion of the Federal Vehicle Technology Guild.
It refers to the Statistics Austria press release from April 29, 2019, which found an increase in accidents involving motorcycles (the number of motorcycle deaths increased by 23% compared to the same period last year). It is therefore important, as this statement continues, to create a greater awareness among drivers of the proper condition of motor vehicles. Harb emphatically emphasizes: “From our point of view, an extended inspection interval, especially for vehicle class L, sends the wrong signal.”

Update:According to the ÖAMTC, 78 motorcyclists were killed across Austria in 2019. At the end of 2019, 549,769 motorcycles were registered across Austria. This corresponds to an increase of 2.8 percent compared to 2018.

Note: On July 3, 2019, the 37th amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act was passed in the National Council. The publication took place on July 31, 2019 by the BGBI. I No. 78/2018.
