6.1% fewer new car registrations in May 2019
In May 2019, 30,574 new passenger car registrations were recorded. That is 6.1% less than in May of the previous year. According to Statistics Austria, new registrations of gasoline-powered cars fell by 6.6% (share: 54.0%), and those of diesel-powered cars fell by 11.6% (share: 39.0%). Significantly more new registrations of cars with electric drives were recorded (+64.5%; share of new car registrations: 2.3%). The car brands with the most new registrations were VW (share: 14.7%), Skoda (share: 9.8%) and Seat (share: 6.9%). Among the top 10 car brands, Skoda (+28.8%), Seat (+14.9%) and Opel (+3.5%) recorded increases; The largest declines occurred at Hyundai (-24.9%), VW (-24.0%) and Audi (-17.6%). When it comes to two-wheelers, fewer motorcycles (-8.3%) and motorized bicycles (-5.4%) were newly registered.
