40 percent fewer daily registrations

According to Statistics Austria, 4,431 passenger cars (passenger cars) were deregistered in the first half of 2020 after a registration period of just one day. Compared to the first six months of the previous year, in which 7,312 cars were registered for one day, daily registrations fell by 39.4%. The share of daily registrations in total new car registrations was 3.9% in the period from January to June 2020 and 4.2% in the same period last year. 

Within the individual months of the first half of the year, daily car registrations only increased in February (+31.2%). In January (-16.1%), March (-69.3%), April (-73.7%), May (-34.2%) and June (-42.0%), daily registrations declined compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. 

New car registrations with a registration period of up to seven days fell by 44.2% from January to June 2020, and those with a registration period of up to 30 days fell by 47.8%. There were also fewer new car registrations with a registration period of up to 60 days (-50.1%), up to 90 days (-46.6%) and up to 120 days (-40.6%).
