The decline in registration numbers continues. August was bitter for new car sales.

30% fewer new car registrations in August
According to Statistics Austria, 20,906 passenger cars (passenger cars) were newly registered in August 2020, 30.1% less than in August of the previous year. New registrations of petrol-powered cars fell by 42.4% (share: 44.5%) and diesel-powered cars by 32.4% (share: 36.8%). There were increases in cars with gasoline hybrid drives (+80.0%; share: 9.9%), electric drives (+41.1%; share: 5.4%) and diesel hybrid drives (+99.4%; share: 3.2%). Overall, new registrations of motor vehicles (motor vehicles) declined (-22.5%). The share of passenger cars in total new vehicle registrations was 67.7%.
The following ten car brands recorded the most new registrations: VW (share: 16.5%), Skoda (share: 7.3%), Ford (share: 6.4%), Mercedes and Hyundai (share: 6.3% each), Seat (share: 5.8%), BMW (share: 5.5%), Audi (share: 5.3%), Renault (share: 4.9%) and Opel (share 4.4%). All of the top 10 brands mentioned recorded double-digit declines between 11.7% and 41.3%.
The commercial vehicle market recorded more new registrations of trucks (HGVs) in the N3 class (+16.4%) compared to the same month last year. There were fewer new registrations for class N2 trucks (-37.2%), class N1 trucks (-18.8%), articulated tractors (-15.9%) and agricultural and forestry tractors (-7.1%).
Among two-wheelers, more motorcycles (+28.3%) but fewer motorbikes (-2.9%) were registered.
