1st quarter of 2020: Daily car registrations fell by almost a third
In the first quarter of 2020, according to Statistics Austria, 2,462 cars were deregistered after a registration period of one day. Compared to the same quarter last year, in which 3,488 cars were registered for one day, daily registrations fell by 29.4%.

The highest decline compared to the same month last year was recorded in March 2020 at -69.3%. In January 2020, 16.1% fewer cars were registered for one day; in February, daily registrations rose by 31.2%. The share of daily registrations in total new car registrations was 4.5% in the period from January to March 2020 (1st quarter of 2019: 4.3%). There was a decrease of 36.0% in new car registrations with a registration period of up to seven days in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year, while short registrations of up to 30 days and 60 days fell by 37.7% and 37.4%, respectively. New car registrations with a registration period of up to 90 days (-33.4%) and up to 120 days (-29.4%) also fell.
